The Forces Against Us

After far too many attempts to sit down and explain what has happened to us in the past six months, I'll spare my loved ones the bore and mostly just post pictures. The long and short of it is that James transferred down to Buenos Aires with Microsoft for two (maybe three) years. We moved just after Christmas and are expecting baby #5 the end of February. We've used the word "crazy" a lot recently.

Trying to leave Washington was a bit of a struggle. This was the day we learned someone in my family had COVID thus canceling any Christmas plans to get together with family before we took off :( Also any help I was going to get from them....sigh...

The day after Christmas it snowed, putting a wrench in the packing plans. Movers were supposed to come pack us up, but they were told not to come to work to avoid bad roads. Our renters were moving in that week and were as accommodating as they could be, but we ended up moving out as they were moving in. It was a wild few days.

Moving out and moving in. A crazy time had by all.

A lot of this happened. If my kids don’t become valedictorian, I’ll blame it on this move.

Finally getting packed up!

Can you see the fatigue eeking from our eyes?

Then we learned that our COVID tests would NOT be valid for our travel plans, our beloved cat Momo wouldn’t be able to come with us as we had planned (we’re two days out, mind you), and I essentially had to chase down the people buying my car and make them buy it from me because I didn’t have time to mess with that situation anymore.

We spent a lot of time chasing around in this enormous rental van with these faces.

Third COVID test in three days was a charm. We had to push our flight out a day to get the testing time right, but Delta was a dear and waived the enormous fee.

We did end up seeing family despite infection. It wasn’t what we had planned, and many people were missed, but we’re thankful for what we were able to squeeze in before we took off! And the cat stays in the family with my sister. We’re so grateful to her for adopting him!

Getting on the plane in Atlanta. Our flight out of Seattle was delayed because someone started throwing up just as we were taxiing away from the gate. We were worried we’d miss our connecting flight but it just so happened the plane we were on WAS our connecting flight. Thank goodness for miracles. Lots of people on our flight missed their connections.

FINALLY made it to Argentina!

Thrilled and exhausted.

A HUGE thank you to anyone who helped shovel snow, move furniture, feed us, clean, provide moral support or prayed for us. We love our friends and family dearly and want you to know you are everything to us!

Sorry there wasn’t much about Argentina here. That’s the next post. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments where you think I’ve left gaps. There are plenty 😊

    1. They have universal health coverage so emergency visits and all basic health care is covered. Then they have tiered insurance so if you want anything on top of what the government provides you can be covered. I’ve been to two different doctors, both highly recommended and they both did a great job, but facilities and equipment are antiquated. I made the appointments directly with the doctors which blew my mind, and I’ve been told medical care is much more straightforward here than the US (no bureaucracy, red tape, need for referrals, decisions driven by money). The only downside is funding for facilities. I was going to have this baby in a brand new women’s center in Bellevue with everything you could possibly want when giving birth. Now I’m going to a 1930’s hospital that is highly renowned, but old old old.

What city are you going to be living in? Matt just transferred jobs to Microsoft, can't remember if I told you that or not. Hope things are going well. 😘 Sabrina
