Fin
After having made it so far with the blog, I really can't leave it ending with that last post. We had a proper conclusion to our Argentine Adventure, and we will have a proper conclusion for the blog.
The youth in our stake worked for months on a roadshow type production where each ward was to perform a 20 minute rendition of a Disney movie. We had four kids to work with in our ward and they did an amazing job with Tangled. They won best song and Charlotte was a somewhat intimidating Mother Gothel (she's too sweet!) They did awesome.
Just need to remember these enormous bouquets we got for Mother's Day. American Mother's Day. I guess there are enough expats in this area that the florists know to be prepared.
Also, this is slightly insignificant, but the birthday parties were kind of a big deal here. Parents would hire professional entertainers or just kid entertainers at these parties and there was a party every.single.weekend. We tried to just go to the parties of friends we knew pretty well, but even then we spent a lot of time at these events.
Grant showed us the neighborhood he lived in when he was here as a child. It was right next to Barrio Chino, and also happened to be the same neighborhood where their missionary apartment would be.
A BYU business undergrad group came to visit Buenos Aires and we hosted them for dinner one night. They were a fun, lively group, and our kids loved talking to Americans!
Part of that group was none other than the great Nate Fetzer. A blast from our Murray past!
We made a couple more visits to the Teatro Color before we left. At one performance we met the guest pianiast during intermission. He was the sweetest and let us take a picture with him.
A fancy, old bathroom that is for display only now at the Teatro.
These three senior missionary couples are all from the same stake in Alaska. They did their best to convince us to come lay our claim to Alaska land. We are still considering.
James' birthday/life celebration was a PARTY! We offered free food and people came. Brother Conda helped us with so many projects and always found a solution to everything. He and his wife have a cake company and made this cake for James.
Ian trying to pretend he didn't have the best cake of his life.
Grant and Susan finally received their mission call and we had to celebrate. The timing was all in the Lord's hands and they started two days before we left. They are doing amazing and loving it!
Pamela (far left) lived with us the last few months of our stay. She helped us with lots of things, and we hope we helped her! One way we think we helped was by moving six months earlier than planned forcing her to get married to the dashing Alejandro sooner than expected. I think she's happy about that.
Saying goodbye:
Charlotte's sweet friend Mica came to visit from the Netherlands. They met here. So glad they had a little more time together!
Christian was the best (and closest) barber. They boys could just walk to his place. Now they have to suffer with my haircuts.
Marcelo Salvioli is our Bishop's father. He is a very talented artist and did a piece for us James wanted done. It is a treasure we are luck to have forever!
Our beloved primary class. Not sure why Imogen didn't make it to the picture.
This goodbye was the hardest. Dora was the best. We love her so much and Ian was especially attached to her. She gifted him this River jersey because we tend to lean Boca and she wasn't okay with that.
Ian's best church buddy Jose Zuniga
Finally, saying goodbye to sweet Jolie. Her health was failing the last few months we were there so James faithfully took her the sacrament each Sunday. She is as darling as she looks. We love her!
Moving is always such an intense time. After watching the movers for a few days Ian decided he knew the drill and insisted on helping. I think he mostly didn't bother the workers.
Staying at the Marriott the last few days. They have to coolest covered rooftop pool with a swim-under wall to get to the hot tub outside. We may have been a little rowdy for such a fancy pool.
Then we left
Ian was pretty good. It definintly wasn't easy, but I was able to watch Ferris Buler's Day Off which I'll count as a win.
Excitement
Seeing our favorite Mt Ranier is always the best welcome home
And so is this welcome home!
We made it to my parent's house just in time for the 4th of July. We spent two weeks basking in the perfet Washington summer weather.
Now we're settled in the equally lovely Provo and planning to be here for a good year. Argentina was a dream and a roller coaster. I can't believe it happened sometimes, but I'm so glad it did. Thanks for following along dear friends. It was fun!
